One in Five of World’s Plant Species at Risk of Extinction

Nearly 100,000 plant species, one-fifth of the world’s total, are at risk of extinction even as 2,000 new plant species are discovered every year.

The State of the World’s Plants report by Royal Botanic Gardens Kew reveals that while factors such as land-use change and new infrastructure play a big role at present, climate change is likely to be a bigger factor in the future in threatening the plants’ survival.
